Stress is a common problem. When asked, 37% of Americans rate their mental health as just fair or poor due to stress.

Unfortunately, stress interferes with life. It impedes joy, happiness, and peace. It’s destructive to relationships.

Do you know what many people do when they feel this way? They turn to God.

Visiting a Christian church is a great way to investigate what the church is all about. But if you’re new to Christianity, you probably have some questions.

Here are seven common questions people often ask.

1. What Does the Christian Church Believe?

The Christian religion believes in the Bible. The Bible is a book written thousands of years ago. Christians believe the Holy Spirit inspired the Bible and that every word is true.

The Bible teaches many things. You can summarize Christian views through a few principles:

  • Jesus is God’s son and lived on earth
  • Jesus was crucified on the cross and died
  • Jesus resurrected from the dead and is in heaven with God
  • Jesus shed his blood on the cross to forgive our sins
  • Those who believe have eternal life through Jesus’ sacrifice

Of course, Christians believe many other things. But to become a Christian, you must believe these things.

2. What’s the Purpose of Attending Church?

Going to church isn’t a requirement of being a Christian. However, it’s an important part of living the Christian life.

First, learning about religion is a vital part of living the Christian life. Church teaches you about Jesus, God, and the Bible. It helps you learn what being a believer means and how to live a life pleasing to God.

Attending church is also important as it provides a way to meet with other believers. Hebrews 10:25 says, “And let us not neglect our meeting together.”

It goes on to say that meeting is a way to encourage each other. A congregation encourages you. It helps you grow and find meaningful relationships.

A church is a support system for each other. The members are there for each other. They help, pray, and serve one another.

3. How Do You Know the Bible Is True?

Many people wonder how Christians know the Bible is true. This question is a tough one to answer, yet it’s an important one to ask.

The Bible is one of the oldest books around. Scholars and archeologists use many techniques to determine the legitimacy of texts they find. The books in the Bible passed all these tests, so this is one way to know.

Secondly, the Bible contains many examples of fulfilled prophecy. It predicted events, and these events happened.

Additionally, there is evidence all around creation that God is real. Once you become a believer, the Holy Spirit lives in you. The Holy Spirit also gives confidence to people, ensuring that the word of God is true and real.

4. How Do You Become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian begins with learning about the church. But to become a Christian, you must make a decision.

Deciding that you want to believe is always the first step. Next, you must confess several things, including:

  • Jesus is God’s son
  • He died on the cross to save us from our sins
  • He came back to life and reigns in heaven with God

Additionally, becoming a Christian requires repentance. Repenting is a process involving turning from your sin. You will never fully conquer sin in your life, but the goal is to aim to stop sinning.

Repentance also requires praying to God and admitting you’re a sinner. Then, you can ask God to forgive you and lead your life.

From there, you can begin taking the first steps in your spiritual journey.

5. What Does the Christian Life Look Like?

The Christian life doesn’t look just one way, and it doesn’t result in living a perfect life. Deciding to follow Christ offers the benefit of eternal life. However, it doesn’t result in living a problem-free life.

Instead, Christians still face problems, trauma, and disappointment. But Christianity gives you a place to take your hurts. You take them to God and trust in Him that He knows what’s best for you.

Being a Christian also means growth. You start as a new believer, but you shouldn’t stay there.

Instead, join a Bible study and start reading the Bible. Start praying and meeting with other believers, and watch how God changes and grows you.

6. What Are the Benefits of Being a Christian?

Believing in God provides many benefits, both here on earth and in eternity.

On earth, being a Christian offers peace and joy. Philippians 4:7 tells us that we can have peace that surpasses all understanding. This means you can find peace in all circumstances, even the most challenging ones.

This peace comes from believing that God is in control and wants the best for you.

Choosing to be a Christian opens up the potential to be involved in a church. You can make good friendships and have a support system around you.

Of course, the best benefit of being a Christian is that you’ll spend eternity in heaven with God.

7. Does God Forgive All Sins?

Some people feel they’ve committed too many sins for God to forgive them. This simply isn’t true.

There is nothing you can do that God will not forgive. You’re not too far gone. You’re not too difficult of a person.

God loves you and sent Jesus to bear the burden of your sins. He’s just waiting for you to come to Him.
