NYC Team July 2016 Updates

Saturday Update:

Our NYC team loaded up on Friday afternoon and left ahead of schedule. We picked up 6 team members who were going to fly, but their flight was canceled. We picked them up on our way out of town.

We unloaded all of our equipment and checked in after lunch. Mark Baird met with the pastor and an architect to go over some construction plans that started on Monday. The team worshipped together with Graffiti 2 on Sunday morning.

Pray for good weather. Pray for the boys and girls who we’re working with this week at Graffiti 1 (in Manhattan) and Graffiti 2 (in the Bronx).

Sunday Update:

Yesterday, we began the day with SS and worship with Graffiti 2. We heard a mission report from their youth who recently returned from working in West Virginia where all the flooding occurred. They worked with the SBC disaster relief group.

The Children’s Minister took four boys to a CentrKid camp. It was the first time any of these kids had ever been out of the Bronx. It was a life changing experience for them!

In the afternoon, the team broke into groups to see the 911 Museum, The World Trade Center Tower and a baseball game. Some met and had an Italian dinner at Puglia in Little Italy.

Today, we started a day camp in the East Village working with Graffiti 1. We will have our orientation at Graffiti 2. Baseball Camp and Summer Tots start on Tuesday.

Pray for the boys and girls we will be working with this week. They will learn about Jonah during the baseball camp and "Bug Zone" at Graffiti 1.

Monday Update

At Graffiti I church, we had over 30 kids in attendance for our day long VBS. The kids heard the story of Joshua, The Warrior Leader, and watched the video.

They learned the memory verse with motions, "Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid, for the Lord your God is with you everywhere you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

The kids did a fun science experiment, made worm pudding and built the "walls of Jericho". It was a great first day at Graffiti I as we got to know everyone.
