Yesterday was our last day working with the schools and with Graffiti 2. We went back to the food pantry and restocked and reorganized after the families went through and got their bags. We worked through the morning and some of the afternoon to get it ready for next weeks pantry. When we finished we we met back and helped G2 get their mail outs ready to send out this month.
When the kids arrived, we did our usual homework help until the Bible story. After the story the kids shared about what they were thankful for, and it was cool to hear them talk about how thankful they were for G2. We left Graffiti 2 and went to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to watch a basketball game.

Yesterday was a cold, cold day in the Bronx. We went back to work with PS 30 before the after school program at Graffiti 2. We spent the day making food parcels for Bronx families and reorganizing their local food pantry in the school. Because of the snow the last 2 weeks, the pantry hadn't been used and was backed up 2 shipments. After he food pantry we picked up the Graffiti kids and went back to the church for programming.
When the kids arrived, we helped with homework and played learning games until it was time for bible story. We decided to act out the story of the prodigal son to make the story come to life for the kids.
With the teens, we spent the first bit of time helping with homework and when they finished we helped them fill out mock job applications and held fake job interviews. Cole Winton was the CEO of Pizza Hut and interviewed Emmanuel. One of Cole's highlights was being able to coach him on how to present himself in an interview.
Our bible story with the teens was on David and Goliath. One of the cool things that we talked about afterwards was how David was tasked with packing lunches for the men who were to challenge Goliath. David was obedient in the day to day, in making lunches and God used his obedience to save a nation.

Yesterday was a long but fruitful day. We spent the morning at PS 30 organizing a resource room in the gym so that the Parent Coordinator, Ms. Vasquez, could store the extra school uniforms. After lunch, the assistant principle asked us to tackle organizing the Main filing room for the rest of the afternoon. During our debrief we talked about how though these tasks may not feel impactful, they are strengthening relationships between Graffiti and the local schools. We read 1 Corinthians 3:5-6 where Paul talks about everyone plays a different part in the discipleship process.
We ventured out to Chinatown and Little Italy for dinner at Puglia's. It was a great time and our boys enjoyed experiencing the shops. We made our way to the Brooklyn Bridge after sunset for some sightseeing. All in all it was a great day.

After waking up around 8 o'clock this Monday morning, we headed to the local grocery store to buy our lunch supplies for the week. After fixing our peanut butter jelly sandwiches, we headed to the Graffiti 2 campus in South Bronx. There we met with Andrew, where he described to us what the purpose of Graffiti 2 is: that it exists to "Revitalize, Revive, and Revolutionize the Mott Haven section of the South Bronx and society by enabling individuals to develop physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually."
After our orientation we picked up the kids for the after school tutoring program. Some of us (Colton, Gabe, Jacob, Jeb, and Sutton) helped elementary aged kids with their homework and got to know the kids. We then led the kids through a Bible Study where the learned the parable of The Prodigal Son. The rest (Nathan, Scott, Cole, Justin, and Joe) helped with the older teenagers with job applications. We finished the day by playing games with the kids before heading back to our hotel that around 6 o'clock.
