Leading up to Spring Break, we had a 3 week teaching series on Wednesday Nights called More Than A Song. In this series, we stripped away the drums, guitars, and piano and took a deeper look into the words of the song. We identified Scripture that would give life to the lyrics so that what we sang became More Than A Song.
First we looked at Kristian Stanfill’s One Thing Remains. The natural response to this title would be “what is the one thing?” We looked at the lyrics of the song through the lens of Romans 8:28-39, specifically highlighting verse 39 that Nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Next, Maria taught on Desert Song through the lens of Psalm 66. This psalm speaks constantly to how our God continually answers prayer. God is faithful in all things, and because of that we can sing praise to him, even when our faith is dry.
Lauren Bush, our High School Girls Intern, wrapped up the series by diving into the song Forever Reign. In Ephesians 3:14-19, Paul shares his prayer for spiritual growth for the people. His desire was for them to know Christ deeper, which evokes a response of worship. This song lists characteristics of God, which through the lens of this passage pushes us to worship Him.
