We recently had a team serving with My Life Speaks in the village of Neply, Haiti. Here are some of their stories.
We had an wonderful team of 10 who represented ClearView in Neply, Haiti from March 18-26th. The Lord's hand was evident from the beginning in bringing the team together with such a special, hard-working, Christ-centered spirit on display each day.
From the moment we stepped off the plane and onto the bus for a long ride through the capital of Port-Au-Prince to the village of Neply, we were overwhelmed by the sights and sounds. The needs are almost too great to express in an adequate manner. No doubt, God had our attention from the beginning.
Our week kicked off with an amazing Palm Sunday children's church followed by a community worship time in the village. Tears flowed freely as we sang "You're a good, good Father - it's who You are......I'm loved by You - it's who I am" and we held children who desperately need to know and understand those words and the love of God in their lives. God's presence was powerful and it set the tone for all we did throughout the entire week.
Each day we had many opportunities to share the Gospel, to share God's love, and to minister to the community. We participated in various programs such as Mother's morning out, Vacation Bible School, and community recreation time. In addition, there was a great deal of physical labor - we painted, built a bridge, completed house repairs, moved rocks for the building of a house, and did laundry for many people in the village. We were also able to participate in the feeding program which allows undernourished children the chance for one meal a day Monday- Friday.
On our last full day of work, several of us had the chance to walk through the village and go into homes to pray with the people of Neply. We would ask for their personal requests and then take them to the Lord in prayer together. What an impactful time for both us and those for whom we prayed.
Proverbs 31:8 says "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." The My Life Speaks organization obeys this command each and every day in Neply, Haiti. Our team was blessed to be a small part of this community and invest for one unforgettable week. Whether it was our teenagers bathing and dressing children each day, playing basketball one minute and feeding them the next, or sharing the message of redemption and rescue with those in need, we were able to be the hands and feet of Jesus and our lives will never be the same. We are thankful for a church that faithfully supports these mission efforts.

We had an amazing day today. The first day of VBS was a huge success. We helped with the feeding program, and there were many "wows" and "wide eyes" from the newcomers. We participated in boat rides this afternoon.
We encountered something unexpected and new to Neply. We saw a donkey ring. This involves boating in sick donkeys from a neighboring island and slaughtering them for fur. They also use the meat in the voodoo rara ritual which is an anti-Jesus celebration of Christ's death. We literally came up on the sick and dying donkeys that were waiting to be loaded into a vehicle as we were headed to boats. It was a crazy experience!

Everybody had a great first day! We had children's church followed by worship. Afterwards, we celebrated with a Palm Sunday sermon under the mango tree. After lunch, we took a village tour, reconnected with some Neply friends we met last summer, and enjoyed some time by the ocean. All in all, everyone has had a great day getting acclimated to Neply and enjoying the community.
