Day Six Update

After spending a great, relaxing day on the beach today, we are starting to pack for our trip home tomorrow.  As we begin thinking about all that we have experienced this week and the people that we have met, I pray that our team has a smooth transition back to our lives at home (this can often be very difficult).  I also ask for continued prayers for everyone involved with My Life Speaks and for the amazing work that they are doing in the village of Neply.

Day Five Update

Today was our last day of team activities.  It's hard to believe our week here is coming to an end soon.   We have all stepped out of our comfort zone and served people in a way that has brought joy to the people of Neply.  In turn, we have each grown personally and spiritually from this experience.  We are all looking forward to spending a day on the beach tomorrow, before packing to fly home on Saturday.

Day Four Update

We participated in most of the same activities today.  One difference was an elderly program, where senior residents of Neply are invited to play games and engage in physical activity.  We also visited with one of the house families that My Life Speaks supports.  These families have so selflessly brought in children (many with special-needs) to raise along side their own kids.  With only a few days left on our trip, we are all feeling a little tired, very sweaty and ready for a real shower.

Day Three Update

Today was very busy as we settled in to our activities.  Most team members participated in community outreach programs this morning (hand-washing clothes, dishes and going on a prayer walk in the village).  This afternoon was more Splash Camp games with kids.  We also helped out with the feeding program and the 72:14 program, which teaches life skills to at-risk teens in the village.  Late this afternoon, several people went on a boat ride from the beach out into the Caribbean......a nice opportunity to jump in the water and cool off.  It's still very hot and most of us are beginning to miss ice, air conditioning and Diet Coke.

Day Two Update

Today, we got into smaller groups to focus on team activities and other projects, such as Mother's Day out, construction projects and the feeding program.  Today was the first day of Splash Camp (the unofficial kick off of summer at MLS).  Local kids from the village were able to participate in water games and everyone seemed to have a great time.  This evening, after dinner, we went to a village soccer game.  A great week so far.  It's still very hot, but we are holding up really good.  We pray for God to work through us to spread His message and to show love to the people of Neply.

Day One Update

We started today with children's worship, focusing on the story of Ruth (Ruth 1:16 Where you go, I will go.  Where you stay, I will stay.).  Worship under the mango tree was well attended and gave the teams a chance to meet more of the people from the village.  This afternoon, we unpacked all of the team supplies, took a tour of the village and got a chance to go see the new land that My Life Speaks (MLS) has acquired.  This is where they will begin building new facilities, including team housing and a school.  The day ended on a sad note, with the death a sick little baby that MLS has been taking care of for the past week.  Just a reminder that, ultimately, God is in control.
