Spotlight on Ministry

Room In The Inn  by Kathy Morey

For eighteen years ClearView has been providing shelter and housing for needy people in Middle Tennessee.  Not only is a warm bed set up and a hot meal provided, our guests also receive a hot breakfast, a sack lunch, an opportunity to get clothing from our clothes closet, shower facilities and most importantly, they get to hear about God.  Each year, from November through March, our gymnasium is transformed on Monday nights to accommodate 12-15 overnight guests.  This has happened for eighteen years; twenty Mondays per year…you can do the math.  It is amazing the number of people our congregation has ministered to in this ay.

Different Sunday School classes rotate through each week…making the number of members coming in contact with our guests so incredibly large.  And believe me, this is not something that has gone unnoticed by the guests. Many are repeat guests…they like the freshly prepared meals, they like the hot showers, but what they really like is the involvement of our people.  We eat with them.  We sit with them.  We look them in the eye.  Many of these individuals never have someone do something as simple as look them in the eye and speak to them as if they were people.  We do that week after week after week and it is so appreciated.

Rick Barnette, our RITI Director and the champion of this cause for 12 years, has a team of people, other champions, which help him make this program work.  He recognizes that volunteering in this ministry is not for everyone, but there are so many ways to help that even the unsure can assist behind the scenes one time per year.
